🇮🇹 Monza: The Cathedral of Speed

There is no circuit like this anywhere on the calendar.

5.793 km of pure adrenaline, straights that seem to go on forever and braking zones that test even the calmest of drivers. The cars are flat out for 80% of the lap and reach speeds that no other circuit on the calendar can match.

And for Franco, Monza means something special

He won here in Formula Renault, he won here in F3, and he made his Formula 1 debut here in 2024. He knows this circuit very well.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza

Built in just 110 days in 1922, it was the third permanent racing circuit in the world. Located in the royal park just north of Milan, it combines kilometre-long straights with legendary corners that have names of their own:

Variante del Rettifilo: the heaviest braking point of the year. Cars arrive at 350 km/h and have to scrub down to 70 km/h in a matter of metres. First corner, first potential chaos.

Curva Grande: fast and flat, where a difference can be made.

Variante Ascari: the left-right-left sequence that demands total commitment.

The Parabolica: the most famous corner. A long right-hander where the exit is everything, because what you carry out of it stays with you for over a kilometre of straight.

⚡ What changes this year

Monza has always been the circuit of the slipstream. But this year there's a new factor that makes it even more interesting.

Under the new regulations, the car behind can activate additional electrical power when running within one second of the car ahead. And at Monza, that activation happens right before the longest straight on the circuit, 1.1 km of flat-out running.

What that means: the chasing car can reach 337 km/h with full power available, while the car ahead starts to lose deployment from around 290 km/h, for over a kilometre.

Overtaking at Monza is going to look different to anything we've seen before.
