In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, few racetracks compare to Baku's street circuit.
The 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix was a pivotal moment in Franco’s maiden F1 season, as he showcased his talent by securing an eighth-place finish for Williams Racing.
A Weekend of Firsts
Franco's journey to his first points in Formula 1 began with a standout performance in qualifying.
Impressing early on, he advanced to Q3 for the first time in his career, securing a ninth-place start on the grid.
This marked the first time since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix that both Williams cars reached Q3.
As the race commenced, Franco maintained his composure amidst the challenges of Baku's demanding layout.
The significant turning point was on lap 50 when a collision between Sergio Pérez and Carlos Sainz saw them both taken out of the race, propelling Franco into eighth place.
An Historic Achievement
Finishing eighth, Franco earned his first Formula 1 points and became the first Argentine driver to score in the sport since Carlos Reutemann in 1982.
The weekend in Baku was a landmark event for Williams Racing. With teammate Alex Albon finishing seventh, the team celebrated its best result since mid-2021 and its first double points finish of the season.
“It feels fantastic to be honest,” Franco said after the race.
“I am very happy, very proud of the team.
“What we have achieved together is incredible and I am delighted for the job and the work we have been doing.”
On a circuit that can test even the most experienced of drivers, Franco’s standout performance in Baku showcased his abilities and made the world of Formula 1 sit up and take notice.
