🇦🇿 Baku always delivers drama. And this weekend was no exception
Franco arrived in Azerbaijan in one of the best moments of his season, with back-to-back Q3 appearances and the pace to fight for points.
Thursday and Friday showed exactly that. Saturday was different.

⚡ The positives from the weekend
Thursday and Friday told the real story of Franco's pace in Baku. In FP2 he was the fastest driver across the finish line at 334 km/h. In FP3 he finished P10. And in qualifying, Franco made it through to Q3 for the third time this season, starting from P9 after a penalty for Sainz.
The race started well. Franco held his position in the opening laps, managed his medium tyres intelligently and was on course to score points when the first Safety Car came out following Albon's accident.
At the restart, with cold brakes and cold tyres, Franco locked up at Turn 1 and made contact with Gasly, who then hit Norris. All three were out.
What Franco said
"I'm very disappointed with today's race and I'm really sorry to the team, to everyone at the factory, to Pierre and to Lando of course, and to everyone who has been supporting us. It was a big mistake on my side and it should not have happened."
He explained a little of what happened: "I locked up with cold brakes and cold tyres and lost control. I know the team did a great job all weekend with the performance of the car and I'm really sorry for what happened when we were in a good position to score double points."
Words that show the hurt of an unexpected mistake, but one that is part of racing in Formula 1.
