πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ Barcelona needs no introduction. Neither does Franco.
This is the Grand Prix where Formula 1 speaks the same language as Franco's fans. Where the grandstands vibrate differently, where the support is felt from the very first practice session, and where the circuit already knows exactly what this driver is capable of.
Last year he started from the back after a technical problem in qualifying and finished P15, recovering through strategy, composure and a crucial overtake on Ocon in the final minutes. This time he arrives differently: with more kilometres, more confidence, and a season that keeps building momentum race by race.
The circuit
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is one of the most complete on the calendar. Fast, technical, demanding in every sector. It gives nothing away, but it doesn't punish without reason either. That's why it was the teams' pre-season testing venue of choice for years: if your car works well here, it works well almost anywhere.
- Length: 4.657 km, laps: 66, total distance: 307.236 km - F1 debut: 1991, a historic first race featuring the iconic Mansell-Senna drag race down the main straight - Franco has already raced here in 2023, 2024 and 2025. This circuit holds no secrets for him.
🩡 What Franco brings to Barcelona
Last year he proved something important at this circuit: he knows how to manage a long race. He completed all 66 laps from P18, moved forward with a clean strategy and crossed the line in P15 with his personal fastest lap on lap 41. No incidents, no penalties. This year he arrives with more data, with Alpine understanding the A526 better, and with the confidence that only comes from building it race by race. Barcelona rewards exactly that: consistency, precision and the ability to read a race when it resets under a Safety Car.
And Franco knows how to do all of that.
🏎️ Where this weekend is won and lost
- Qualifying β€” Turn 3 is the key
Turn 3 is the best indicator of the car's balance. Whoever carries it through there well, carries it through the rest of the lap. For Franco, reaching Q2 and pushing from there is the real target.
- Tyre management β€” the decisive factor
Barcelona is tough on tyres, particularly the rear axle over long stints. Last year Franco showed he can look after his rubber. That skill counts for a lot here.
- The Safety Car β€” it almost always comes out
On lap 55 last year it changed Franco's race entirely. Reacting before your rivals can mean two or three positions gained without a single overtake.
Heading to Barcelona this week? One thing to plan around
Pope Leo XIV visits Barcelona on 9 and 10 June, with events at the Cathedral, the Olympic Stadium and the Sagrada FamΓlia. If you're planning to visit the city centre on those days, expect road closures and large crowds. Give yourself extra time to get to the circuit without any surprises.
πŸŽ‰ And if you're at the GP, there's plenty beyond the sessions
Alongside the on-track action, the weekend offers: - Fan Zone (behind the main grandstand): simulators, pit stop challenge, photo booth and F1 podium replica - Fan Village at PlaΓ§a Catalunya (9–13 June, 12:00–21:00, free entry): F1 activations, live music and interactive experiences in the heart of Barcelona - Fan Forum: interviews with paddock figures on the main stage - Pit Walk and Open Track: access to the pit lane and circuit at specific points during the weekend
