Preparing for the Canadian GP and How Franco Gets Ready

Between races, the world of Formula 1 - and Franco - is far from standing still.
After a demanding weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix, drivers and their teams - in our case, Franco with Alpine - are fully focused on preparing for the next challenge: the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Here’s how this race-free week in F1 looks and how Franco Colapinto and Alpine are getting ready.
🔍 What Do F1 Teams Do Between Races?
Even when there’s no on-track action, the work intensifies in five key areas:
1. Post-Race Analysis
Engineers download and study all the data from the last race: telemetry, strategy, and internal comparisons.
This analysis helps identify faults, validate improvements, and adjust plans for upcoming races.
2. Factory Work
While the cars are shipped to the next track - in this case, Montreal - new parts are developed if needed.
Critical components such as the gearbox and power unit are reviewed.
Of course, simulations of the next circuit are run to test different setups.
3. Logistics Preparation
The jump from Europe to North America involves a large-scale logistical operation: - Transporting cars, parts, and equipment via cargo flights. - Coordinating with customs and assembling the new paddock in under 72 hours.
💡 Fun fact:
Each team ships over 50 tonnes of material, which must be packed and dispatched within 48 to 72 hours after the previous race. Everything is carefully organised so that the full setup in Montreal - or wherever the next race may be - is 100% ready by Thursday before the race.
4. Driver Work
During this break, drivers: - Run Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulator sessions for the Canadian circuit. These sessions help drivers get more “track time,” as the four hours of practice before the race may not be enough to properly familiarise themselves with the circuit. - Maintain an intense physical training routine, especially since Montreal is a fast-paced, urban track that demands a lot from drivers. - Attend technical meetings for preparation and review alongside engineers and other team members.
Franco will be fully focused during these days, training as much as possible and working closely with Alpine to define the improvements needed to keep enhancing his performance in the car.
5. Communication and Visibility
During the non-race week: - Post-race analysis and other content are shared. - PR events or media activations are held locally. - On Thursday before the GP, 13th of June, the official Media Day will take place, where we’ll get to hear directly from Franco about what’s been going on behind the scenes.
📅 Roadmap to Canada
- This week: technical analysis, simulator sessions, and logistical coordination. - Thursday 13 June: Media Day in Montreal. - Friday 14 June: Free Practice 1 and 2. - Saturday 15 June: Free Practice 3 and Qualifying. - Sunday 16 June: Canadian Grand Prix race.

🗣️ What Did Franco Say About the GP in Canada?

“I’m really looking forward to continuing the hard work with the team over the next few days. There’s still a lot to learn heading into Montreal in a couple of weeks.” You can sense the focus and motivation 👏🏼.

🏁 What’s the Takeaway?

The week/s between races is just as crucial as the days on track.
For Franco’s team, this time is an opportunity to regroup, solve reliability issues, and maximise performance at such a demanding circuit like Montreal.
With our favourite driver at the heart of the project and a new technical direction in place, Alpine is aiming to turn this mid-season pause into a pivotal moment to move up the grid.
