The Formula 1 season is starting to take shape after five action-packed rounds of racing — and there is sure to be lots more drama when the Miami Grand Prix gets under way this weekend.
A three-way tussle at the top is providing plenty of intrigue, but there are also some fascinating storylines further down the pecking order.
More twists and turns will undoubtedly be in store across the coming days, then, at one of F1’s newest venues.
Here are a few things to look out for at the Miami International Autodrome…
Shaping up at the summit
Oscar Piastri will head to Florida in a buoyant mood after triumphing in Saudi Arabia last time out.
The Australian sits atop the Drivers’ Standings with 99 points on the board so far — ten ahead of his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris.
And Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is only marginally further behind on 87 points, as he looks to continue his remarkable streak of four successive Championships.
MV1 has good reason to be confident ahead of Round 6, having emerged victorious from the two previous editions of the Miami GP.
But with McLaren’s MCL39 looking strong during the campaign’s opening exchanges, there’s little room for error in this fiercely competitive season.
Midfield match-ups
The usual suspects may be battling it out in the upper echelons, but it’s also worth keeping an eye on the midfield, with Williams Racing sitting fifth in the Constructors’ Standings.
That’s largely thanks to Alex Albon, who has put 20 of Williams’ 25 points to date on the board.
Haas aren’t far behind, though. They’re currently in sixth with 20 points of their own — mostly contributed by Esteban Ocon (14).
Ocon has particularly enjoyed racing in Florida in the past, so may be someone to watch out for this time around.
He placed inside the top ten at each of the three previous Miami Grands Prix while driving for Alpine, meaning the French team have scored points each time they’ve visited the East Coast venue.
A testing track
There are additional points available this weekend, with a Sprint race taking place on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s main event.
But drivers will need to pay close attention to the challenges posed by the Miami International Autodrome, if they are to enjoy success in either session.
The track’s fast-paced layout features a healthy mix of long straights and tight corners, as it winds around the Hard Rock Stadium and an artificial marina.
Sector 2 in particular offers plenty of overtaking opportunities during a high-speed straight, before a relentless set of technical turns and a testing chicane.
Each lap ends with a straight run into Turn 17 and a left hairpin not long before the finish line, completing one of F1’s most vibrant circuits.
