👏 This weekend we're back at Zandvoort
With the orange grandstands at one of the most unique circuits on the calendar.
Franco has history here before arriving in F1, and last year he wrote one of the best chapters of his season.
And before F1?
Zandvoort was not unfamiliar territory for Franco. In the 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup he finished third in Sprint 2. In FRECA 2021 he stood on the podium with a second place. And in F3 2022 he scored points too. A circuit where he always knew how to perform.
And last year?
Franco's F1 debut at Zandvoort was his best result of the season with Alpine up to that point. He started P16 on fresh soft tyres and from the very first laps began gaining positions with consistent pace and a smart strategy. He made three stops: to hards on lap 19, to mediums on lap 53 and to softs on lap 65, taking advantage of the final Safety Car to attack the cars ahead. He crossed the line in P11, just 0.448 seconds from P10. On the final lap he set the fastest time of any driver on track: 1:13.049. His best sector was sector 3, where he was fourth fastest of the entire field.
Flavio Briatore highlighted his performance in the post-race summary: "Franco probably had his best race of the season. Both drivers made a great effort and worked as a team."
🩵 What Franco said
"It was a race where we came very close to scoring points as a team. I felt good on track and in the end I achieved my best result of the season."
"We made some important strategic decisions with the final Safety Car, trying to attack the cars ahead, and although we didn't manage it, there are a lot of positives to take from the weekend."
