A special country for a special driver
Almost a year ago, in the heart of Italy, Franco took his first official steps in Formula 1 during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. It wasn’t just a test; it was the realisation of a childhood dream and a symbol of everything he had built up until then.
"Once you reach that dream you had as a child, it stops being a dream and becomes a goal," he reflected, speaking about how that dream had transformed into something tangible.
Italy does seem to bring Franco good fortune. Well before his F1 debut, in 2020, he claimed his first win of the season at the Monza 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup race and closed out that same weekend with a third-place finish in the second Italian race. Those results were crucial in boosting his confidence and proving he had what it took to build a future in racing.
Now, with the European season underway, returning to Italy is more than just another date on the calendar – it’s a chance to reconnect with the key moment that put him on the radar of countless fans – and teams.
The symbolic power of Italy
Franco made his first Formula 1 appearance here. It was in Italy that an Argentine officially returned to the F1 grid, something that hadn’t happened since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001. The news stirred excitement among thousands of fans and reignited the hope of seeing the Argentine flag once again at the highest level of motorsport.
That day, Franco didn’t just deliver a strong performance; he showed maturity, focus, and the ability to adapt to the high-pressure rhythm of an F1 weekend. He made his presence known, sent a message, and hinted at what was to come.
Today: same passion, more experience
Less than a year later, Formula 1 returns to Italy, and Franco comes back stronger – with more experience and greater conviction. The flashback isn’t just nostalgia; it’s a reminder of how far he’s come and why he earned his place as a full-time driver for Alpine.
For Argentine fans, especially the younger ones who see him as a new national hero – this Italian Grand Prix is not just another race. It’s a symbol. It’s where Colapinto once again puts Argentina firmly back on the F1 map.
With eyes firmly on the future, this return to Italy is the perfect time to remember where it all began, and to keep dreaming about what’s still to come.
