🏙️ Baku, land of surprises and Latin flavour
This relatively new GP, the Baku City Circuit, has become a stage where Latins make the difference.
Sergio “Checo” Pérez is the top winner here with two victories (2021 and 2023), proving that this urban track suits those of us coming from Latin America perfectly.
And in 2024 it was the turn of another Latin:
Franco Colapinto, who in just his second official Formula 1 race with Williams achieved a sensational P8 and scored his first points in the category.
Of course, Baku has also delivered unforgettable chapters for other names: Ricciardo surprised in 2017, the circuit’s first year, with an unexpected win; Hamilton took victory in 2018 and Bottas dominated in 2019. In 2021, a puncture denied Verstappen the win and opened the door for Checo’s triumph, while in 2022 Max finally conquered the track.
📊 Key facts about the Baku City Circuit
Laps: 51 Length: 6.003 km Corners: 20 DRS Zones: 2
🏎️ A circuit of contrasts
The layout combines a main straight of over 2 km —perfect for overtakes at more than 350 km/h— with the historic Icheri Sheher section, where the streets tighten against medieval walls. Teams must choose between downforce for the twisty sector or reduced drag to exploit the straight, making Baku a unique strategic challenge.
🇦🇷 Franco and his story in Baku
Franco never raced in Baku in Formula 2: his leap to the elite was direct, and he did it in style. In 2024, in just his second official F1 race with Williams, he achieved a historic P8, becoming the first Argentine to score points in Azerbaijan and in 42 years! Showing that Latins have something special with this circuit.
Now in 2025, dressed in Alpine colours, Franco returns to the track where he wrote one of his most memorable chapters. With experience, speed and hunger for glory, he will look to score more points and continue consolidating himself among the best.
In the coming days we’ll show you the best photos from his 2024 outing in Baku!

✨ A little more about Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan lies between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, and its capital, Baku, will host round 17 of the season.
It’s a street circuit in the very heart of the city, running along the Caspian Sea. With its long straights, cars reach over 350 km/h, making it one of the most exciting races of the year.
Expect plenty of international fans — will you be there?
If so, bring a light raincoat and your No. 43 cap, because the forecast says there may be light showers on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday’s race should be run in the sun, with temperatures around 22 °C.
